High-school students will need to access the Technical Repertoire packs, which are curated collections of melodies that incorporate common scale and arpeggio patterns. Each pack comprises of differentiated (some easy, some not-so-easy) tunes sharing a single key signature, and is accompanied by a more traditional 'technical work' sheet if desired.
Please click the Seagull Scales Program button below for both the Technical Repertoire and the Technical Work downloads.
Common Activity Sheets
We Have To Talk About... Slurs |
The Conga Technical Work sheets are a familiar way to get back into playing after the long school holidays and build on the skills you developed in your first year of playing. The beat and rhythm can feel a little odd in terms of how it looks and how it should sound, so listen to the demonstration video below to hear it played.

Players that studied with me in their first year of lessons will be familiar with the first 5-Minute Workout activity sheet. Perhaps you still use the Stair Climbing exercise or a variation of it even now!
You can find that first sheet in the Primer Packs, and all subsequent 5-Minute Workouts below.

5 Minute Workout Round 4 - Trumpet & Low Brass |
|
|
Here are a couple of backing tracks in the key of Bb Major (that's C Major for trumpeters) that you use behind the Higher, Higher, Higher Jumps exercise from the 5 Minute Workout Round 2. After you play through the whole sequence with a beautiful, controlled sound try improvising your own melodies using the notes of the exercise. See if you can imagine the tune you're playing as you make it up (kind of like singing along in your head), then try to imagine a melody BEFORE you play it!

And here's HARD MODE that breaks out of our plain old Bb Major key! How good is this!?
One final activity for trombonists in particular to help hear our intonation (tuning) more accurately and consistently than ever. Here's the video demonstration and a sheet with the first half-dozen examples transcribed in bass clef. Good luck!

And finally, here's a helpful website for high-schoolers that decodes all the fancy musical ornaments like trills and mordents, because who remembers all that stuff!?
